Question: Do ya think Nascar fans who are southerners don't give drivers a chance who are from other regions of the U.S.?

( Back )

Answer #1:

no, i know i don't care where drivers are from

Answer #2:

I doubt it. The drivers are from all over the place as you noticed. There are fans all over the place too. NASCAR has been big over most of the US for 15+ years now and many places for far longer.

Answer #3:

Well I'm from the deep south and I like Kevin Harvick so explain that. (Bakersville, California)

I also like Tony Stewart so explain that. (Columbus, Indiana )

I also like Dale Earnhardt Jr. Explain that. (Kannapolis, North Carolina)

Answer #4:

im a southerner and im proud to be born and raised here but i could care less where a driver or anybody else is from. only time i will care is if someone starts to talk trash about the south then i'll get defensive and start to talk sh*t

ICE - looks like you're saying Dale JR isn't a southerner, you do realize NC is a southern state right?

Answer #5:

im in south ga i don't have problems with west coast drivers or any where else.

Answer #6:

you mean like Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson... "no"
or even Juan Pablo Montoya, or Marcos Ambrose... "no"

Answer #7:

No

Not really. Do you who turned me on to NASCAR? A little Dutch lady that lived across the street form me when I was a kid.

Answer #8:

I don't care where they come from if they are good ok if not get out.

Answer #9:

They didn't run rum it was bourbon or whiskey, rum runners sounds cool though. Anyway, I dont think fans use to "sweat" Jeff Gordon just because he was from somewhere other then the south. I think they did it because he was a threat to knock Dale Sr off his championships. Really even way back when Mario Andretti won a Daytona 500. So southern people have been known in the past to be stereotyping, and racist people and I know that some of that still exists and not just in the south. But all in all nowadays, I think people learn to respect a good driver know matter where they are from and they will give them a chance usually. I think like and dislike is more about how the drivers act and not how good or bad of a driver they are.

Answer #10:

true. I know lots of people who don't cheer for JPM because hes not american.

Answer #11:

Maybe in the past this was more prevalent, but no as much nowadays. NASCAR is truly expanding to ALL points ... "National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing."

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Jeff Gordon!!!!

Answer #12:

No, times have changed and people's way of thinking has changed. There are some ignorant people out there that are probably a bit biased on it but the majority of people don't care to say the least. I'm a huge Nascar fan and pull for several drivers but I couldn't tell you where half of them were born or raised, it's nothing to consider in my opinion.

Answer #13:

nope i am from tennessee and my driver is from the state of washington , also i like quite a few others like kenseth and harvick so i think most fans just pull for the guy they like no matter where he is from ,but i will say my all time favorite is from the deep south in dawsonville georgia and of course thats awesome bill from dawsonville

Answer #14:

I don't know because I'm not from the South.

Answer #15:

Seems to me that most of the drivers in Sprint Cup nowadays are NOT from the south........

Answer #16:

Backk in the day...well...maybe also up until the early 2000's there werent such a diverse amount of drivers as there is today. Back then, you were a joke for liking jeff gordan simply because he is from california. Now...more and more drivers are from places BUT the south. If you're a nascar purist, you hate seeing jeff gordon win at Dega or darlington.Where some dont mind at all. NASCAR is pretty much a southern sport....but over the years it has slowly begun to expand and reach out to everybody in the nation let alone the world. So...to answer your question, i think southerners who had a problem with CA boys etc winning races or attempted to drive a stock car, really dont care anymore who wins. i mean sure you like and dislike different drivers or a die hard fan of i.e. dale jr, so you care to that extent. But when it comes to oh, he's from CA, i hate him lol i doubt that crosses somebodys mind nowadays. Unless you're a really closeminded person. I hated Juan Pablo Montoya because he's from indy and thought oh great....another indy driver who just is gonna cause wrecks and whatnot. However the guy has turned out to be a decent driver. Despite being from a different racing series...and from brazil. I just love my southerners though haha.
