Question #1:

Looking to buy North American made family car. What are my options?

I'm definitely interested in the Ford Taurus (made in US) and the Ford Fusion Hybrid (made in Mexico) as well as the Hyundai Sonata (Assembly in Alabama). Most of my driving will be in the city and I want it as a family car as I'm expecting my first child at the end of November. Here are my thoughts on each.

The Taurus is $30,000+ as I don't want the base model for any of the vehicles I'm considering and it only gets 18 mpg city and 25 mpg highway. I love the look and feel of this car. The safety is great and it's definitely big enough for a family car I would also be able to get it in AWD which is great because I live in Anchorage Alaska.

The Fushion Hybrid's MPG is much better I think it's 41 city and 36 highway and it comes in at just under $30,000 but there's something about the styling that just rubs me the wrong way. There's plenty of room but it reminds me too much of the focus which just looks cheap to me. I know that the Fusion is made in Mexico not the US but it's still North America which is important to me and Ford is most definitely an American company.

The Sonata is great it gets something like 22 mpg city and 35 mpg highway and the limited comes with everything that the Taurus has (maybe more) for about $25,000. The warranty is much better than Ford's coming in at 60,000 miles, 60 months for the warranty 100,000 miles, 100 months for the power train (Ford is 36,000 36 months and 60,000 60 months power train). The look and feel of Sonata is great too. My main issue with this car is that I don't know what percentage of the vehicle is manufactured in the US. I know that they say it's built in Alabama but for all I know they could assemble the whole thing in South Korea and slap on the rear bumper after shipping it over and claim that it's built in the US. It's also not an American company and I would really like to support the American economy or at least North American as best I can.

Does anyone know what the break down for parts made/ parts assembled in the US is for any of these (or other "made in us") vehicles is? I'm also open to other options but I like what I've heard and seen from these three the best.

So what are my options

Question #2:

Watch America Le Mans streaming Mans Series, Road America online live broadcast channel with hd video?

The American Le Mans Series Monterey Presented by Patron will be held this year on May 21-23, 2010 with a 6 hour endurance race. This race weekend is in dramatic fashion with the high-tech, high-speed Le Mans prototypes and GT machines of the American Le Mans Series staging a Saturday afternoon-into-evening six-hour race. Sunday's action features the Playboy Mazda MX5 Cup, Cooper Tires prototype Lites Championships, the Patron GT3 Challenge by Yokohama and Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear.

The American Le Mans Series returns to Miller Motorsports Park for the fourth consecutive year with the most exotic, high-tech sports cars on the planet, piloted by some of the world's best drivers.

The series has revised its class formulae for 2010, but will still be comprised of four classes: Le Mans Prototype (LMP), for the bigger prototypes like the Acura ARX-02a, Acura ARX-01b, Ginetta-Zytek 09HS (hybrid) fielded by Salt Lake City-based Corsa Motorsports, Lola B09/86 Mazda, Lola B06/10, Radical SR9, Porsche RS Spyder, Audi R15 TDI, Peugeot 908, Aston Martin Lola and Pescarolo.; LMP Challenge (LMPC), an exciting new class featuring 450-hp, affordable, “value engineered” smaller ORECA-Courage LMF09 prototypes; GT, for production-based cars such as the Corvette C6.R, Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, Ferrari F430 GT, Jaguar XKR, BMW M3, Panoz Esperante, Ford GT and Dodge Viper; and GT Challenge (introduced in 2009 at Miller Motorsports Park), for Porsche 911 GT3 Cup race cars.

The 2010 Larry H. Miller Dealerships Utah Grand Prix sees the event move from mid-May to mid-July, and will be the first track time for many of the teams following the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans, which takes place in mid-June

One of the races this weekend that leads up to the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach features the American Le Mans Series, a favorite for fans of exotic race cars and souped-up versions of such production sports cars as the Porsche 911.

The series' race is Saturday, and its drivers use the same layout on the city's seaside streets that the Izod IndyCar Series will use for Sunday's grand prix.

The ALMS is divided into different classes, though all the cars race at the same time. The LMP class, for instance, features exotic prototype cars such as the one co-driven by David Brabham and Simon Pagenaud of Patron Highcroft Racing.

The GT class, meanwhile, features Chevrolet Corvette ZR1s, Porsche 911s, Ferrari F430s and Jaguar XKRs, along with BMW M3s such as the one co-driven by veteran Bill Auberlen of Redondo Beach for the BMW Rahal Letterman team.

Question #3:

Is it relevant/beneficial to warm up a hybrid car after being dormant for an extensive period of time?

There is actually a great debate over this issue with regular (fuel only) vehicles. Both sides have valid ideas as to which is preferable in my opinion. Some issues include: how old the vehicle is, the environment in which the vehicle is normally driven in (specifically in extreme temperatures), and the appropriate amount of time (if any) should the car be idle before normal driving - some believe it helps circulate the oil in the vehicle and helps maintain the automobile's parts (when allowing the vehicle to idly warm up, the parts become more malleable as opposed to brittle). The allegory to this is warming up your body before exercising to help prevent injury.

Since the hybrid car uses a combination of both electricity and oil as its source of energy, will it be better to allow the hybrid vehicle to idly warm up or is this a completely unnecessary process?

Does idly warming up a hybrid vehicle have a negative impact on the battery? The idea behind this question is that the hybrid vehicle starts off using the battery as its first source of energy then switches to fuel when the engine requires more demand (i.e. accelerating and maintaining higher speeds). Because the hybrid vehicle is idly sitting there, would the battery drain and ultimately damage the battery? Supposedly the battery in the hybrid vehicle is recharging when it's braking during "normal" driving.

Ultimate goal: To maintain and keep the hybrid vehicle at its most optimal level.

Any ideas/thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

Question #4:

What are your thoughts on this?

Lee Iacocca Says:

'Am I the only guy in this country who's fed up with what's happening? Where the hell is our outrage with this so called president? We should be screaming bloody murder! We've got a gang of tax cheating clueless leftists trying to steer our ship of state right over a cliff, we've got corporate gangsters stealing us blind, and we can't even run a ridiculous cash-for-clunkers program without losing $26 billion of the taxpayers' money, much less build a hybrid car. But instead of getting mad, everyone sits around and nods their heads when the politicians say, 'trust me the economy is getting better..'

Better? You've got to be kidding. This is America , not the damned, 'Titanic'. I'll give you a sound bite: 'Throw all the Democrats out along with Obama!'

You might think I'm getting senile, that I've gone off my rocker, and maybe I have. But someone has to speak up. I hardly recognize this country anymore..

The most famous business leaders are not the innovators but the guys in handcuffs.. While we're fiddling in Afghanistan , Iran is completing their nuclear bombs and missiles and nobody seems to know what to do. And the liberal press is waving 'pom-poms' instead of asking hard questions. That's not the promise of the ' America ' my parents and yours traveled across the ocean for. I've had enough. How about you?

I'll go a step further. You can't call yourself a patriot if you're not outraged. This is a fight I'm ready and willing to have. The Biggest 'C' is Crisis! (Iacocca elaborates on nine C's of leadership, with crisis being the first.)

Leaders are made, not born. Leadership is forged in times of crisis. It's easy to sit there with thumb up your butt and talk theory. Or send someone else's kids off to war when you've never seen a battlefield yourself. It's another thing to lead when your world comes tumbling down.

On September 11, 2001, we needed a strong leader more than any other time in our history. We needed a steady hand to guide us out of the ashes. A hell of a mess, so here's where we stand.

We're immersed in a bloody war now with no plan for winning and no plan for leaving. But our soldiers are dying daily.

We're running the biggest deficit in the history of the world, and it's getting worse every day!

We've lost the manufacturing edge to Asia , while our once-great companies are getting slaughtered by health care costs.
Gas prices are going to skyrock again, and nobody in power has a lucid plan to open drilling to solve the problem. This country has the largest oil reserves in the WORLD, and we cannot drill for it because the politicians have been bought by the flea-hugging environmentalists.
Our schools are in a complete disaster because of the teachers union.

Our borders are like sieves and they want to give all illegals amnesty and free healthcare.

The middle class is being squeezed to death every day.

These are times that cry out for leadership.

But when you look around, you've got to ask: 'Where have all the leaders gone?' Where are the curious, creative communicators? Where are the people of character, courage, conviction, omnipotence, and common sense? I may be a sucker for alliteration, but I think you get the point..

Name me a leader who has a better idea for homeland security than making us take off our shoes in airports and throw away our shampoo?

We've spent billions of dollars building a huge new bureaucracy, and all we know how to do is react to things that have already happened.
Everyone's hunkering down, fingers crossed, hoping the government will make it better for them. Now, that's just crazy.. Deal with life.

Name me an industry leader who is thinking creatively about how we can restore our competitive edge in manufacturing. Who would have believed that there could ever be a time when 'The Big Three' referred to Japanese car companies? How did this happen, and more important, look what Obama did about it!
Name me a government leader who can articulate a plan for paying down the debit, or solving theenergy crisis, or managing the health care problem. The silence is deafening. But these are the crises that are eating away at our country and milking the middle class dry.

I have news for the Chicago gangsters in Congress. We didn't elect you to turn this country into a losing European Socialist state. What is everybody so afraid of? That some bonehead on NBC or CNN news will call them a name? Give me a break. Why don't you guys show some spine for a change?

Had Enough? Hey, I'm not trying to be the voice of gloom and doom here. I'm trying to light a fire. I'm speaking out because I h

Question #6:

How do i stop my teenage friends from getting pregnant!?!?!?

I'M RE POSTING THIS BECAUSE, I REALLY NEED YOUR HELP THANK YOU.

How do i convince my friends not to get pregnant!?!?!
First of all, I'm fifteen and my fiancee and i have a baby due in March. My fiancee proposed to me after my first ultrasound, we have been dating for a year and 2 months. In about 2 weeks i go back to school to start my sophomore year, around the same time i go back he starts his fire fighting school ( he graduated last year. ) He lives with his parents right now, but when the baby gets here my mom agreed to let him move in, so he can help me with the baby and get to see his little one daily. My mom has done so much for me! And fully supports me and my decisions BIG TIME! She is a pediatrician and has a doctors degree so she makes decent money, She is sending me to college, I got my first car when i turned 15 and got my permit, i have a brand new Lexus Hybrid. She is always giving me money to do what i want to do like going to the movies, shopping, going out to eat etc.. without me asking for it. I know when the baby gets here she is going to have to help us a little bit for the first few months but not to much, I have a job right now at a daycare but when i go back to school i will only be able to work for about 3 hours a day. I've never really had to work for anything i want I've always had things handed to me. My mom even told me she would help us get an apartment, but i told her i wanted to live with her for the first year or so, and she said that is fine. I'm so lucky to have a mother like her, she does so much for me.

But, my friends think i have the "perfect" life, and my life is set. I know that even though my mom and fiancee are here for me, I am still going to have a hard time, i know babies are a lot of work, i know that I'm going to miss out on so much, before i got pregnant, my sweet 16 was going to be at the beach with all my friends for the weekend having fun. But now its just going to be a pool party and sleep over at my house with my 3 best friends. And i know that having a baby and being in high school don't mix, but I'm going to stay in high school no matter what. I know that I'm going to have sleepless nights and hard times. When i turn 21 instead of going out having fun with all my friend celebrating i will be at home playing with my 5 year old. My friends think its cool that I'm pregnant, and that my fiancee gets to live with me, and that i have a car. But what they don't understand is that i know its going to be hard and things won't always go as planned. I know it will be hard.

My best friend that I've known since elementary school is trying to get pregnant. She is 16 I've explained everything to her, and tried to convince her not to. I've even asked her to please wait until i have my baby so she can see that it is not that easy. But she is still hooked on trying to get pregnant. What else can i tell her??

I do not regret getting pregnant, my fiancee and i love our baby to death. And are going to be the best parents we can possibly be. I know it will be hard, and i wish we would have waited a few years, but everything happens for a reason and i don't regret it one bit.

( sorry that this is so long and thanks )

Question #9:

Why is Obama touting the VOLT as some sort of cutting edge electric car, when it REQUIRES Premium gasoline?

Through the entire hubbub over the price of the new electric-first hybrid, one small detail managed to fly under the radar until the folks from TheTruthAboutCars brought it up. The 2011 Chevy Volt, which advertises 40 miles without using any gasoline, will require buyers to use premium grade fuel.

It might seem a little odd that a cutting edge electric car like the 2011 Volt requires the pricier, higher octane fuel.

Question #10:

What should I buy for my first car?

I'm going to be 16 soon, and I'm looking for a kind of fun and girly car. I was looking at sports cars, but my parents care too much about safety and my driving speed so now i have to find a family friendly car (which means at least 5 seats) that's still fun for me to drive around.

I'm liking the new toyota prius cuz it's fuel efficient, more spacious than other hybrids, and has cool technology. I also like the ford fiesta for its cool lime green color haha and other features (like the price)....any ideas or suggestions?

btw: price range around 20,000even though the prius is more

Question #11:

undisclosed frame damage?

Six months ago, I purchased a used 2006 Honda Accord Hybrid, from a local dealer. Prior to purchasing I was shown a “carfax” report, that stated that there were no prior issues with the vehicle. Since owning it, it has become apparent that my family needs more room and I started looking for a used small suv or crossover.

While I was out test driving a car the dealership ran the vin of my accord through the carfax site for trade value. It came back as having been in an accident in 2007 in which the airbags had deployed. I was furious, thinking the original dealer had shown me an incorrect report, turns out they use autocheck not carfax, however, when the salesman handed me the report he referred to it as a carfax report.

Since I could not get what I needed on a trade in I decided to go to carmax where they have a program that they will purchase your car even of you don’t buy from them. They do a thorough inspection and run an autocheck report.

The appraiser said there was major frame damage at one point, she even took me outside and showed me where the entire trunk was welded and that both rear quarter panels had been replaced. She also said after damage the frame will no longer crumple as intended and it could be very dangerous for any rear passengers, while I drive with my two children in the rear all the time and this causes me great concern.

I have two questions. First, is it in fact unsafe to drive with my children in the rear?

Second, do I have any case against the dealer? The welding work in the trunk was really messy and I find it hard to believe anyone who knew what to look for would miss it (of course I did not know what to look for at the time) and it was even in their body shop to have a small dent in the rear door replaced when I bought it, so it was around auto body repair men.
Your right, I should have gotten it inspected first. I will definitely not make that mistake again! I seem to learn all of life’s little lessons the hard way. *Sigh* another lesson learned.

Question #13:

Help, with choosing my first car (TDI)?

I have decided, after looking for my first car for a few months, to go with a TDI (diesel). Out of all the cars i looked at, the TDIs had the highest miles per gallon, it wouldn't worry me with a failing battery (such as a hybrid), and diesel engines are extremely reliable. I have narrowed the list down to 3 potential cars, all are automatic. The first one is a 2003 VW Jetta (black-grey) with 180k MILES for $4300. My likes: The least girliest of the 3 (I'm a guy) and four doors, Dislikes: the millage, cloth interior. The next car is a 2002 VW Beetle (silver) with 105k miles for $4500. My likes: has the least millage of the 3, leather interior, Dislikes: It's some what of a Girl car, 2 doors, no sunroof. The last car is a 2000 VW Beetle (black) with 110k miles for $4800. My likes: it the least girlest of the beetles, Dislikes: it has stickers on it, that look as if it would be a pita to get off, and there is a scrape on the rear. Out of all the cars i like the jetta the most but the milage scares me as its an automatic with the 01M transmission (some what problematic, reportedly not as bad when paired with a diesel).

Question #14:

Why do teachers think they need more money?

Yes I understand they teach kids but their job isn't that hard. And if they need money to motivate them then maybe they shouldn't teach in the first place? My parents work 1000 times harder then any teacher and make nothing near what a teacher makes. My parents work hard labor all year round. Why do teachers feel so entitled when there are so many hard working people out there that deserve better wages? And also when you look in a teachers parking lot (and this is with the dozen schools iv been to in my life) there cars are so nice. Many of the new hybrids. I think teachers should stop complaining and learn that there are millions of people that deserve better then teachers. What do you think? Oh and a little disclaimer: im not a republican (people always pull that one)
No they dont work that hard im sorry to say. Maybe for someone who makes 100 grand a year they do but for us lower class americans they dont do shit.

Question #15:

Buy EV NIssan Leaf or 2011 Prius Hybrid?

I am considering buying either of these cars maybe by the end of year (USED). That is when the Nissan leaf will come out. At first I liked what it would cost to charge the leaf for every 100mi which they said about $3.00 something on .10cents a kwh. But that is not in Los Angeles! Its about .34kwh or even 40kwh. That means it would cost about 9.00 a charge which comes out same as reg car. Now I dont like it as much.
Only thing I like is that its electric and when you charge it well you dont have to pay for it imediately, pay your electric bill every 2 months : ). Thats about it.

Now the 2010 prius is looking good. I like that it gets average 50 mi+ and its not expensive. Do you think that the 2011 prius will have better mileage? I think why not. They could improve it by 5 miles more.

So if you have a 2010 prius how do you like its mileage. Does it do what it says 50mi+?

Question #17:

I'm looking to buy a hybrid car?

I'm looking to buy a hybrid car. I have already done a test drive for the Prius and the Honda Civic hybrids (both latest models), and both seem like very nice cars to me. I've done a little research on hybrids, but does anyone have any first hand experience that they could share? Also, does anyone know if one is better than the other? The Prius is supposed to be very good, but the ratings that I've looked at seem to put the Civic right up there with it. Any info would be greatly appreciated!!

Question #19:

Do you care if your dog food is organic?

Whether commercial or raw diet?

My local pet supply chain just started stocking Innova's "Karma" - the most thoroughly organic dog food I know of.

But it's $29.99 for a 6 lb bag, and that's the only size they sell. Whaaaat?

Taste of the Wild, a better food (more and better meat sources) except non-organic, is $9.99/6 lb bag

If I'm at the supermarket picking up meats for my pups and the organic stuff is close in price to the non-organic, I'll get the organic.

But 3x the price? $5/lb - more expensive per/lb than actual organic chicken itself?

Kinda like a hybrid car - I'll gladly become a customer when you make the price within reason.

I would think raw feeders might want to feed organic as an extension of some of the reasons why they turned away from commersh food in the first place.

U?
There is the USDA standard, and Karma is USDA certified organic.

Alot of other 'organic' foods use other entities for certification - and I find all that to be completely non-credible.

I don't think there is zero actual value in truly organic food - just not enough for me personally to pay much extra for it.
