Question #1:
Snap && go Stroller?
So I received a safety 1st Stroller but i dont like it because it's really big. so i been seen a lot of people with the snap and go strooller so i was wondering if i could buy it and just hooke my safety 1st car seat on? does anyone know??or does anyone know about a good lightweight stroller that im going to be able to use atleast for a while my son is just going to be 3mths.
Question #2:
3 year old tore up the safety foam in his carseat...?
We washed the cover to my son's car seat today, so we had it all stripped down sitting in the living room. My son was playing while I was making lunch and ripped off a good portion of the safety foam in his car seat. Only about 1/4 of it is gone, but obviously enough to make his car seat unsafe if we were to be in an accident.I have a couple of questions about how to handle this. Firstly, what kind of seat should I get to replace it? He's almost 3 1/2 and weighs 38 pounds (had him in for a checkup last week); legally we can have him in a belt positioning booster from 40 pounds. Should we get him another 5 point harness seat or just go on ahead to a high backed belt positioning booster? I know that the harness is exceptionally safer, but there is a significant cost difference, and though I don't like it, cost is a consideration. I'm not really considering a backless booster, though, for what it's worth.
On my son's end, what would be most appropriate way to show him the consequences? I want to emphasize "you tore up your car seat, so now you can't ride in the car," but am not sure how long is enough to enforce this. Just a couple of days? A week? More? How long will having to stay home with Daddy while I run errands and us having to skip our daily outings get the point across with out being too harsh?
Also any ideas on how to involve him (age appropriately) in working off the cost? I'm not expecting to him to actually earn the money for it or anything, but I want to get the point across that "we have to spend money on a new car seat for you and you need to help us with that."
(For the record, I do feel awful that I wasn't supervising him well and know that I'm at fault here too... that's why I couldn't bring myself to ask this under my normal account. I don't want my contacts to think I'm an awful mom!)

Question #5:
help with the law and kiddy seats?
this is just a theory that my self and my hubby got talking about, and i wondered if anyone out there knew about the law and children traveling in cars?the hubby has a land rover. would it be possible to make a restraint system - ie a 5 point harness - so that our (small) 2 1/2 yr old can sit on the front seat without a car seat?
yes - all safety features would be taking into account, and it would all be properly made and bolted to the chassis etc. this is just a thought proses that i couldn't find any other help on line with. i am not saying i would ever do it, just in case someone wants to shout at me! lol
thank you xx

Question #10:
Car seat safety question... preparing for a 1,000 mile road trip tomorrow with 3 year old and 8 month old!?
Hi there, so tomorrow night my hubby, 3 year old son, 8 month old son and I are leaving to DRIVE 1,000 miles up north to visit family! I have a few questions. #1. Is it safe to leave the carry handle on the car seat up while baby is in the car? It fits better (without me moving my seat up) and I will be able to hang some toys on there for him. #2. Do you think it's a good idea to leave at night? Our boys both go to bed around 9-10pm so we are hoping they will sleep a lot if we leave around then. #3. Does anyone have any other advice for me? I'm nervous about going so far in the car with 2 little ones! I hope they aren't crying the whole time... I can handle it but my hubby might lose it! LOLQuestion #11:
Mother-in-law issues?
I gave birth to my first child in February and recently went back to work part time. My daughter and I are very lucky that she is cared for by my mother 2 days per week and my mother-in-law one day per week.HOWEVER, thus far I am very unhappy with the way my mother-in-law cares for our child. When she watches her, she runs her all over the place. I realize she is giving up her day to watch my daughter, so I tolerate this. It is annoying, though, that she can never seem to tell me when she's eaten or slept.
Last week, three things happened that totally angered me:
1. MIL took our daughter to her parents' house even though she knows the house is off-limits as her parents are chain smokers. She insisted that she kept our daughter outside, however, I found some clothes she'd worn that day that she had hidden under some other dirty clothes and they reeked of smoke. Before I found the clothes, I thought it was odd that MIL had given her a bath that day, too. Two days later, our daughter woke up with a 104 fever. We took her to the dr and she had her first ear infection. Up until now, she has never been sick. The dr said it could very likely have been due to her exposure to smoke, since it could irritate her nasal passages, making her more susceptible to viruses. My MIL and FIL say we are "sheltering" our daughter by not letting her be around smoke and that we can't be so overprotective because she needs to see her great grandparents. We told her we'd love for her to see her GGPs, they just have to not smoke around her.
2. My husband took the car seat base to work by mistake. She was mad because she wanted to leave. So my FIL met my husband at work, picked up the base, and headed to our house. For some reason, my MIL took decided to put her in a car seat that we don't yet use, even though my husband asked her not to. We wanted to make sure it was safely installed before we used it. WHen we asked her why she did it, she said she couldn't find the car seat. However, it was right on a chair on the front porch, the most obvious spot. She even said "silly me for not looking in the most obvious spot."
3. I found a sticky baby spoon in my daughter's diaper bag. At this point, my daughter is exclusively breast fed and my MIL and her family is constantly pressuring us to give her food. MIL denies any knowledge of the spoon.
My husband called her and talked to her about all this, but it sort of got turned around on us. She cried and ended up being the victim in this situation. My husband felt terrible and refused to tell her what the dr said about the smoke and the ear infection, and my FIL called and yelled at my husband, saying "your mother lies to me, but she wouldn't lie to you." However, I really feel she lies often to get her way.
My MIL is extremely manipulative and my husband has a horrible time telling her no. 75% of the arguments my husband and I get into are about her. Now that we have a child, it is much worse because I feel like I have the safety of my child to look out for. When my MIL watches her, I feel like she does not get enough sleep. Also, when my mom watches her, she eats about 14 ounces...the last two times my MIL watched her, she ate about half of that.
I don't really know what to do about this situation. We really need to set some boundaries. My husband feels so guilty telling his mother no that it never happens and she keeps pushing us around. I don't want to be the one to tell her no, but I feel like I have to. I also don't want it to ruin my marriage.
This weekend, we are renting cabins with my MIL and her family. Lots and lots of chain smokers will be around (though not in the cabin we are staying in). I worry there will be a blowout. My MIL seems to like to take our baby and walk away with her quickly before I catch her. I think this is due to her desire for control. However, I'm not comfortable with this this weekend because I really feel like she'll bring her around smoke.
Another thing, my MIL is constantly pressuring us to do things we don't want to do. I told her we wouldn't be going to a horse racing track for my BIL's bday because we are broke (I just got done with unpaid maternity leave) and she keeps pushing it. A. I don't want to go to a gambling facility when I'm broke, B. I don't want to drive the 2.5 hours, C. I don't want to bring my daughter to a racetrack. Am I wrong in this?? She won't take no for an answer.
Anyway, I feel like this is getting ranty. To sum up my question: does anyone have tips for dealing with my MIL and dealing with my husband and his guilt regarding MIL?
At this point I worry that I have so much pent up resentment that it will show when I talk to her. I try to ensure my opinions of her actions are not tainted by this resentment by putting everything that angers me through the "would I be mad if MY mot
btw...we dont NEED my mil to babysit...we just thought it would be nice for both her and my daughter.

What is a good, safe rear-facing car seat for 20lbs and up?
My son is 6 months old and we currently have the Graco SnugRide 32. I'm researching good rear-facing car seats for when we have to move up. He's currently 26 inches tall and 18 1/2 pounds. I'd like to keep him rear-facing for as long as possible, as I've found this to be safest for children. I've looked at the Britax Click and Safe Convertible car seat but it says it's only rear-facing up to 35lbs. Is this a standard weight for rear-facing? Right now price isn't an issue, I'm more concerned for safety and longevity.Any links you could provide are appreciated.
