Question #2:

I have a Safety First Designer Car Seat- Orchard, I was wondering which Travel system would work with it?

I really feel stupid for buying this car seat, I jumped the gun and purchased it because I fell in love with the design, I now wish that I had purchased a full travel system. I was wondering if anyone knew if there is a stroller that will allow me to attach the car seat to it. I do not want a frame, I want to purchase something I can use when my baby gets older, too.

Question #4:

Would it be considered domestic abuse if a man kicks in a drivers side window while his pregnant girlfriend is?

sitting in the seat at the time, or just breaking property... because call me crazy but i consider it a bit more then breaking a window when glass is flying at my face.. but he is insisting it was nothing to hurt me. i have never had a man treat me this way and i dont want to become another statistic or a victim. i am pregnant and i dont want to just leave since its the first time he ever has hurt me. he gets angry and violent maybe once a year and each time it has escalated.. the first time it was throwing furniture.. second time just screaming so loud at me i was scared and punching walls, and now this time kicking a window in my face. and its always for no good reason.. and it happens so infrequently i always just let it go and hope it wont happen again but now i am scared next time he will actually hit me. he gets mad when i say that and insists he would never hurt me.. but he did by kicking glass at me. his family was there when he kicked the window at me and when the police got there they told the cops it was all my fault and threw me off their property to drive home alone in a glass covered car.. (the cops did NOTHING. they just let him go.. i am not the one who called them a stranger passing by did) and i think that might be part of the issue.. that his family just told the cops i was the problem and then asked him how he was feeling and told him it was not his fault..

i already told him his family is having nothing to do with my baby. i refuse to allow my baby around people who advocate domestic assault. but do you think therapy will help him? can he be helped? i dont know what to do. sometimes i get scared for the babies safety when he is born. i never know when he will snap and what if he throws something and it hits a baby. i am just completely confused as to what to do.

Question #5:

what should I get for my first car?

I will be getting my license in Dec 18, 2010 and I really want a 2007 Honda Civic lx or the base model but it really doesn't matter to me. There some things that need to be in the car such as all the safety features, side airbags, abs etc. i want keyless entry and low miles. All power features but it doesn't have to include the seats. A sunroof will be nice and i would like a four door car not a coupe. I really dont want a car with a lot of power at least not now. My parents drive Jaguars and i hate them because they have a lot of power to them and i dont need that at least not now. There cars have a lot of cool features like automatic windshield wipers and lights but theres much more and i find it distracting, I just want something simple.

What cars do you prefer and what years and models? What about price range for me, my price range is about 15,000 is that to much? Also is the car insurance for a 2007 Honda civic gonna be a lot ? What is the difference between the lx, ex, dx and si of the 2007 Honda civic? all help would be appreciated oh! one more thing i need a car with excellent gas mileage

Question #6:

Can I be sued for canceling a check? Service not received?

I finally had to sever ties with this auto shop. I had my vehicle at the shop for two months. No work was done on the car. When I called yesterday about the status of the car he immediately started yelling and cursing.

I had to go there with a tow truck after 2 months to collect my car and take it to another shop. I just got my car back today. When I arrived at the shot (Tow truck about 25-30 minutes behind me) the owner immediately became irate. He became so threatening that I ended up calling the police for personal safety. Once the police were called he skipped out of the shop. I had to pay 175 dollars for Disassembly, Diagnostics, and Reassembly before they would let me take my car.

All that was taken off was the front motor fan and fan bracket. These parts were then placed on my passenger seat and floorboard. I now have a well oiled interior. Also while there I had the police write a report for the Garmin GPS unit that is now stolen.

After realizing the state that the car was in, I called the bank and canceled the check. I took pictures and have a police report about the stolen item. I feel that I was charged for Disassembly, Diagnostics, and Reassembly and since the car was not reassembled as stated on my invoice which I paid, I therefore should not have to pay.

I had to pay 180 dollars to have the car towed to my home town to a mechanic that I trust. The new mechanic tells me that it should be done in 4 to 5 days. No work was done on my car.

Can I be sued or have any repercussions from canceling the check? This is the first time that I have ever canceled a check.

Question #7:

What should I buy for my first car?

I'm going to be 16 soon, and I'm looking for a kind of fun and girly car. I was looking at sports cars, but my parents care too much about safety and my driving speed so now i have to find a family friendly car (which means at least 5 seats) that's still fun for me to drive around.

I'm liking the new toyota prius cuz it's fuel efficient, more spacious than other hybrids, and has cool technology. I also like the ford fiesta for its cool lime green color haha and other features (like the price)....any ideas or suggestions?

btw: price range around 20,000even though the prius is more

Question #8:

Safe carseat for a newborn?

I'm about 2 weeks from having my first child and as a gift my dad bought us the carseat. I told him I wanted him to pick it out for a couple different reasons. One is it kinda makes it more special then if he just gave me money to buy it. Another is he's a very smart man and I knew he would reasearch his choices thoroughly before selecting a car seat. I was right he picked a top of the line for safety convertible car seat. The Advocate CS

What I didn't think about was the fact he's never had a baby himself (wasn't around for my youth) and didn't factor in any practicality. Most newborn seats have a base so you can securely pack them up and click it into the car. You can also simply remove the seat and carry it into places, like stores, friends houses, and appointments without having to wake the baby. This seat stays in the car. It also doesn't state that it is for newborns, just gives weight and height requirements. Most newborns fit that weight but still...
Also I'm afraid it will be too big for our little Saturn SL2

I just wanted some opinions from people who have had children or are at least well versed in car seats. I'm very grateful he got something so nice for the baby, but just wondering if I should go get something for the first couple months at least. I really don't want to hurt his feelings...

Question #9:

Help for first car Vw?

I really like the volkswagen vans that are out there, which ones are the better of the others, in terms of reliability? What are pros and cons of busses like these? Good first vehicles? If you have a van, for example, a volkswagen samba, and you are to remove the back seats, can you put in couches? Is it illegal for safety belt laws?

Question #10:

Opinion on my tirade about the airlines?

This started off as talking about my plane ride home yesterday through IM, and it launched into a full scale tirade. After a while it started to get kinda comedic, I think xD

Anyway, just wanted to get your opinions/relations/etc. on this:

"Speaking of airplanes, you're never gonna believe this
"We have pillows and blankets available for a price of $8." $8!! EIGHT DOLLARS! I just have to repeat that one more time because it is so monumentally ridiculous that I cannot even begin to fathom it--EIGHT! DOLLARS!!
but you know what? oh yeah, you know what?
I brought my car blanket and my jacket, both of which will be way more comfortable than that SANDPAPER you pass off as a pillow and blanket and make people pay $8 for, and I'm gonna have the best sleep of ANYBODY on this airplane, and it ain't gonna cost me a PENNY. So I just have two words for you, American Airlines: GET. EFFED.
It's not gonna get better, just worse
You hear about that Irish airline THAT CHARGES FOR BATHROOM USE?!?!?!?
BATHROOM USE!
You have to pay like, a buck fifty or something to squeeze into that tiny little bathroom that you can barely fit in and has no water coming out of the sink or in the toilet and is so ill equipped in the way of support bars that anytime you have turbulence (and you most assuredly will, because the worst turbulence of a plane ride, as a rule, automatically comes when you're trying to use the bathroom) you'll end up falling to the floor. And while we're on this tirade in regards to the airlines, ever notice that the pilot will turn the seat belt sign on and tell everyone to get back in their seats, and everyone will keep scrambling around the cabin not paying attention, and then the stewardess will shout into the PA, "SIT DOWN!" in a shrill voice? Hmmm...I wonder if the pilot and the stewardess sleep together sometimes...
"Fly the friendly skies." Now, if you ask me, the skies are friendly. They're blue and cheerful and full of nice fluffy clouds...but that doesn't mean the people flying IN them are friendly. I mean, you hear the safety video end with "we thank you for coming to fly the friendly skies with us" and then you see the guy sitting next to you lighting a match.

And notice that, as a rule, it is always extremely turbulent when the seat belt sign is off and completely smooth when it's on? It's almost like a secret code. "Okay...the seat belt sign is ON now...that means we're free to move about the cabin, and when they turn it OFF, we better go back to our seats" And you know what I really dislike? This term "nonstop." Now I don't know about you, but I tend to prefer if the plane stops. Preferably at an airport. And "luggage carousel." Why the heck do they say THAT? Are they implying it's supposed to be a bunch of horses on a merry go round bringing you your luggage on their backs? Because if there's anything about a luggage carousel, it's that it is the exact opposite of a carousel. And airlines wonder why they lose their business to Southwest. Well, I'll tell you why that is, that's because your luggage flies free, the tickets are $200 cheaper than any other airline, they don't charge you for pillows and blankets, and, holy, they're actually kinda COMFORTABLE, their flight attendants are more entertaining than the movies they show on other airlines, they finally got service to/from Boston Logan, and they don't treat their first class passengers like royalty and their coach passengers like criminals. Southwest Airlines: the only good airline around anymore. American Airlines: PWNED. Southwest used to be cruddy by airline standards, cause they never did anything to make the flight comfortable, you had to change planes just to go from L.A. to Salt Lake City, but Southwest got a lot better and the other airlines got so much worse that I'd say they are truly, by now, the best airline I've ever flown. Not earlier.
A few years ago I wouldn't have said that.
But now I'm saying that.
And to top this tirade of mine off, let me tell you the worst airline flight I've ever had. So bad I even remember the date. July 27, 2007. Boston to Los Angeles, just like the flight I took yesterday. American Airlines. Scheduled departure: 7 p.m. Actual departure: 10:30 p.m. Time spent sitting on the tarmac: 3 1/2 hours. My bedtime that night: 4 a.m., which to my body still set on
Eastern Time, would have been 7 a.m. Compensation? NONE. --tirade over--
Sorry, that was a long tirade xD"

Question #11:

What would a more open-minded Liberal America look like?

Here is what I want to see in America:

2010 November: Democrats gain seats in both the House and the Senate

2011 January: Public Option passes for Universal Healthcare

2011 February: US Government proposes High-speed rail system project New York to San Francisco at 600 miles per hour....hires tons of US engineers, appropriates money to higher education for science/engineers

2011 March: New Public Housing projects, Government-subsidized intentional communities, eco-villages

2011 April: US Government creates a social program to teach Americans how to manufacture their own iphones and blackberries, how to grow their own vegetables, how to fuel their cars with vegetable oils without octane, so they can become self-reliant of oil corporations

2011 May: US Government begins a massive Nuclear Defense Shield Proposal that would include eliminating all nuclear warheads and improving shields to protect us from foreign invaders

2011 June: USA finally passes national gay marriage....gays, lesbians, bi, transgenders celebrate...

2011 July: (Government introduces a summer taxcut for anyone earning less than $500,000 pays 0% of income tax, every penny over 500,000 taxes at the 39.5% Bill Clinton taxrate)

Beginning 2011 August: A massive, and I mean massive effort begins to start cutting programs we don't need....

The first big cut: Pulling out of Iraq and Afghanistan
Cutting back big on Medicare/Medicaid and health services and instead promoting in-house volunteer clinics
Eliminating 100% of bank bailouts
For K-12, elimination of the public school system - instead Government funds the self-reliance programs
We would eliminate the Recovery Act
Eliminate the Environmental Protection Agency, Food and Drug Administration, Department of Agriculture, eliminate the Department of Energy...we don't need one when everyone is not self-reliant
Eliminate Social Security....free up that money.....instead we would have the US reward states that exempt seniors of all property taxes and rent.....it would become a states issue

We would eliminate so many Government programs during the last quarter of 2011 that we'd have a Budget Surplus, Public Option Healthcare, a High-speed rail system, an end to oil addition, elimination of the drug war.....it would be a whole new America!

Why put everything into health and safety when we're not safe if we cant be modern and we have no Govt budget?

Question #12:

How to deal with police catching you for sudden speed limit changes?

I was caught speeding when I failed to response quickly enough to a speed limit sign that reduced the speed limit from 60mph to 45 mph that I honestly did not see until I was up near the sign.
Yes, I was paying attention. Yes I had my license and insurance. No I didn't have any alcohol in my system. No I did not flee the scene. Yes I admitted my speed straight out. Yes I was wearing my seat-belt. Yes I used my turn signal when I pulled over. No I did not have any speeding or otherwise moving violations in the past year. No there were not homes or buildings on the side of the road or anything obvious to tell me I was in town (I was, in fact, near the edge of the town).

I told the cop I was admiteddly speeding at 65mph but didn't any 45mph signs before the one he was next to and honestly did think I was in a 60 mph zone until I saw the sign. He then told me "well but it's not the first 45 mph sign". And he was right it wasn't...but, in that same town area, there were several 60 mph and 45 mph signs alternating...but at that point I figured he did not care and I'd only get myself in worse trouble by trying to explain.

*******************************
I just feel I'm playing roulette when I drive near small towns because it seems if there aren't drivers around me to hint me in on the speed limit before I hit a speed limit sign it's a game of can I see that sign faster than the any cop near that sign can radar me. I've seen cops do the same thing to other cars as well...and I'm not talking idiot drivers who hit 80 mph or swerve through slower traffic or don't signal or tailgate; I'm talking about well behaved drivers.

Anyhow, I've only driven past that town about 5 times and already have a ticket and several other times around there got caught in similar "what the heck?" situation where I saw a 45 mph sign at random in low traffic areas and obviously hit the breaks to slow down for my own safety (IE there were no other cars or cops in sight...but I figured there was probably a fair reason IE a blind intersection somewhere).
**************************************

I'm leaning toward just simply never driving on highways that go through small towns (IE take a bus or fly for such vacations) unless I can, for example, find some more clever techniques through which to avoid getting caught near a much-slower speed limit sign at the last second. How could I negotiate (both driving/looking-for-signals and actually dealing with any policemen if necessary) better next time?

Question #14:

Mother-in-law issues?

I gave birth to my first child in February and recently went back to work part time. My daughter and I are very lucky that she is cared for by my mother 2 days per week and my mother-in-law one day per week.

HOWEVER, thus far I am very unhappy with the way my mother-in-law cares for our child. When she watches her, she runs her all over the place. I realize she is giving up her day to watch my daughter, so I tolerate this. It is annoying, though, that she can never seem to tell me when she's eaten or slept.

Last week, three things happened that totally angered me:

1. MIL took our daughter to her parents' house even though she knows the house is off-limits as her parents are chain smokers. She insisted that she kept our daughter outside, however, I found some clothes she'd worn that day that she had hidden under some other dirty clothes and they reeked of smoke. Before I found the clothes, I thought it was odd that MIL had given her a bath that day, too. Two days later, our daughter woke up with a 104 fever. We took her to the dr and she had her first ear infection. Up until now, she has never been sick. The dr said it could very likely have been due to her exposure to smoke, since it could irritate her nasal passages, making her more susceptible to viruses. My MIL and FIL say we are "sheltering" our daughter by not letting her be around smoke and that we can't be so overprotective because she needs to see her great grandparents. We told her we'd love for her to see her GGPs, they just have to not smoke around her.

2. My husband took the car seat base to work by mistake. She was mad because she wanted to leave. So my FIL met my husband at work, picked up the base, and headed to our house. For some reason, my MIL took decided to put her in a car seat that we don't yet use, even though my husband asked her not to. We wanted to make sure it was safely installed before we used it. WHen we asked her why she did it, she said she couldn't find the car seat. However, it was right on a chair on the front porch, the most obvious spot. She even said "silly me for not looking in the most obvious spot."

3. I found a sticky baby spoon in my daughter's diaper bag. At this point, my daughter is exclusively breast fed and my MIL and her family is constantly pressuring us to give her food. MIL denies any knowledge of the spoon.

My husband called her and talked to her about all this, but it sort of got turned around on us. She cried and ended up being the victim in this situation. My husband felt terrible and refused to tell her what the dr said about the smoke and the ear infection, and my FIL called and yelled at my husband, saying "your mother lies to me, but she wouldn't lie to you." However, I really feel she lies often to get her way.

My MIL is extremely manipulative and my husband has a horrible time telling her no. 75% of the arguments my husband and I get into are about her. Now that we have a child, it is much worse because I feel like I have the safety of my child to look out for. When my MIL watches her, I feel like she does not get enough sleep. Also, when my mom watches her, she eats about 14 ounces...the last two times my MIL watched her, she ate about half of that.

I don't really know what to do about this situation. We really need to set some boundaries. My husband feels so guilty telling his mother no that it never happens and she keeps pushing us around. I don't want to be the one to tell her no, but I feel like I have to. I also don't want it to ruin my marriage.

This weekend, we are renting cabins with my MIL and her family. Lots and lots of chain smokers will be around (though not in the cabin we are staying in). I worry there will be a blowout. My MIL seems to like to take our baby and walk away with her quickly before I catch her. I think this is due to her desire for control. However, I'm not comfortable with this this weekend because I really feel like she'll bring her around smoke.

Another thing, my MIL is constantly pressuring us to do things we don't want to do. I told her we wouldn't be going to a horse racing track for my BIL's bday because we are broke (I just got done with unpaid maternity leave) and she keeps pushing it. A. I don't want to go to a gambling facility when I'm broke, B. I don't want to drive the 2.5 hours, C. I don't want to bring my daughter to a racetrack. Am I wrong in this?? She won't take no for an answer.

Anyway, I feel like this is getting ranty. To sum up my question: does anyone have tips for dealing with my MIL and dealing with my husband and his guilt regarding MIL?

At this point I worry that I have so much pent up resentment that it will show when I talk to her. I try to ensure my opinions of her actions are not tainted by this resentment by putting everything that angers me through the "would I be mad if MY mot
btw...we dont NEED my mil to babysit...we just thought it would be nice for both her and my daughter.

Question #15:

My husband is out of control?

He's spiraling out of control. I'm starting to worry about his safety, it's like he doesn't care anymore. He's started driving dangerously, he no longer wears his seat belt. His concern for his own safety has completely gone. I confronted him about wearing his seat belt and the way he drives telling him both are illegal (reckless driving and not wearing a seat belt) not to mention the fact that I told him I didn't want to lose him and he told me "you wouldn't care". Today he was installing a fan in the guest bedroom and I asked him if he remember to turn the switch off and he said "Didn't check, but we can only hope it's turned on". I cannot watch over him all the time, I wish I could but he's an adult he has to watch out for himself. He seems to not care, which scares me. I asked him if he thought about taking his life, he said "definitely not, but if I am in front of a speeding bus I'll take my time moving". At first I thought this was just some funny and sick game he was playing. Then I rode with him in the car, then we put the fan up and it's scaring me. I cannot lose him, he's too special to me.

What do you do for fun ?
Thanks All . D :)

And our parents told us to stay outside and play... all day long. Oh, no, no electronics to soothe and comfort. And if you came back inside... you were doing chores!
And car seats - oh, please! Mom threw you in the back seat and you hung on. If you were luckily, you got the "safety arm" across the chest at the last moment if she had to stop suddenly, and if your head hit the dashboard, well that was your fault for calling "shot gun" in the first place!
